CAPE TOWN - A 51-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl in Hanover Park.
The child was reported missing on Tuesday, but community action helped police trace her to the suspect's house in the area.
It's understood that police used video footage from home security cameras in the search.
When police arrived at the suspect's house, they found a crowd of around 200 people demanding that he be released to be dealt with by the community.
However, the officers took action to disperse them and during that operation, police vehicles were damaged.
Despite this, there were no arrests for public violence.
A woman, who was involved in the search for the girl, told EWN that her relatives grew suspicious when she failed to return from Muslim school on Tuesday afternoon.
EWN also understands that the suspect had been out on parole for a number of weeks.
Police said that more charges may be added.
