CAPE TOWN - MPs have stressed that no stone should be left unturned in the quest for justice for long distance bus company, Intercape.
Parliament's police committee on Wednesday heard presentations from Intercape and Golden Arrow Bus Services relating to security.
Intercape started its presentation with a video showing live footage of gunmen firing shots at buses and drivers.
The company's lawyer, Advocate Kate Hofmeyr, said that the attacks began in 2022 after a meeting was convened by taxi operators during which they apparently tried to extort the bus service.
She said that Intercape presented police with evidence, but there had been no arrests.
Committee chairperson, Ian Cameron, described the presentation as shocking and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)'s Eugene Mthethwa agreed.
"I don't have many questions, but I'm just flabbergasted, I'm just dispraised by what I heard."
The Democratic Alliance's Lisa Schickerling said: "I want to agree with honourable Mthethwa, I'm at a loss for words, like I'm a little bit in disbelief in terms of what I've heard. I mean that video recording that we watched is absolutely shocking. You can actually feel the fear of the bus drivers."
ACDP leader, Kenneth Meshoe, said: " What we have seen and heard is heartbreaking. It is depressing. It causes one to be left with anger that we have become a lawless country."
