JOHANNESBURG - The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party says Higher Education Minister, Nobuhle Nkabane’s decision to back-peddle on recent Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board appointments is disingenuous.
In a statement released on Friday morning, the MK Party condemned both the minister’s appointment of boards, which it claims were laden with African National Congress (ANC) members, as well as the reversal of her decision.
The party wrote to parliament’s higher education committee chair, Tebogo Letsie, and the matter was discussed on Wednesday.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member of Parliament (MP), Sihle Lonzi, was also booted out of that meeting.
The minister said she’s reopening the process in the interests of integrity and accountability.
MK Party spokesperson, Nhlamulo Ndhlela, said, “The retracted list of SETA board appointments was in effective, nothing short of cronyism, it is a clear operation that would have continued the ANC’s corrupt cadre deployment network that has crippled our public institutions and condemned a generation of youth to poverty.”
