JOHANNESBURG - One person has been killed in a fire at the Delmore informal settlement in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni.
The man, who is believed to be in his early sixties, was found burned beyond recognition.
The blaze, which occurred on Wednesday night, destroyed 10 structures, leaving many people out in the cold.
Emergency services spokesperson William Ntaldi said it's unclear what caused the blaze.
“Primary responding teams from Primrose Firestation, Germistation, Edenvale and Bedfordview all responded to the scene for intervention. On arrival, the fire was spreading at an alarming speed due to the wind which was blowing. After that, we found information from bystanders that there was somebody who is trapped in one of the shacks, where it is suspected the fire started.”
