Gauteng residents brace for low supply as Rand Water embarks on winter maintenance

JOHANNESBURG - Residents in Gauteng will have to brace themselves for more low water supply due to planned winter infrastructure maintenance.
Rand Water said this will start from next week and likely last for four days in preparation for increased demand in August.
The utility said the maintenance will happen at different times and locations across various municipalities.
The maintenance is scheduled to start next week on Thursday until Wednesday, when consumption is relatively low.

The water utility said pumping capacity will be reduced at the Eikenhof, Palmiet, Mapleton and Zwartkopjes water plants.
As a result, areas within the cities of Joburg, Ekurhuleni, and Tshwane may experience low to irregular water supply.
Local municipalities of Rand West, Mogale City, Madibeng, Rustenburg and Emfuleni will also be affected.
Customers are reminded to implement suitable contingency measures.
