CAPE TOWN - Supporters of alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield are calling for his release from prison, ahead of his appearance at the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Friday.

Stanfield, his wife Nicole Johnson, his younger brother, and his mother-in-law are linked to alleged billion rand tender fraud within the City’s Human Settlements Directorate.

The Directorate’s former MMC, Malusi Booi, is one of the more than 30 accused in this case.

They’re facing more than 50 charges, including murder, fraud, and money laundering.

On Friday, a small group of protestors held a peaceful gathering outside the Cape Town Magistrates Court in solidarity with Stanfield and his family members, as they appeared before the magistrate.

They chanted, "We want Stanfield."

One of the protestors, Rowena Von Ruben from Delft, told Eyewitness News that she believes the state has no case against the Stanfields.

"We want Ralph Stanfield back, we need Nicole back, we need Lee back. I just think it's unfair, it's not being done to other people. They provide us with everything."

Stanfield and his wife, Nicole Johnson, have been in prison for almost two years now.
