CAPE TOWN - Charges relating to a billion rand housing tender fraud against former City of Cape Town human settlements MMC Malusi Booi and nine others have been provisionally withdrawn.
The same charges against alleged 28s gang boss Ralph Stanfield and his wife Nicole have also been provisionally withdrawn.
The state accused them of manipulating housing tenders during Booi’s tenure to benefit companies belonging to Stanfield and his wife.
But the Stanfields will remain behind bars to answer to the gang-related charges they face.
"The state withdraws the charges against accused 17 up to 26 with regards to count 38 to 54, and this includes that these charges are withdrawn against accused number 1 and 2," said Cape Town magistrate, Alida Theart said.
