JOHANNESBURG - Hope in the fight against gender-based violence(GBV) has been reignited in Limpopo.
A recent imbizo held in Thohoyandou brought together key stakeholders in a renewed effort to curb violent crimes, particularly those targeting women and children.
The gathering, attended by more than 2,000 community members, local leaders, and senior police officials, aimed to establish stronger collaboration between the SAPS, provincial safety department, municipal officials, and specialised task forces.
Police say the partnership will focus on addressing GBV and improving safety in hotspot areas.
Limpopo SAPS Spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba said that the initiative comes at a time when the country is seeing a decline in sexual assault cases.
"Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant Thembi Hadebe, when presenting the crime overview, indicated that she is proud of the province's performance as most crime categories are green."
