DURBAN - While the African National Congress (ANC) honoured Lungi Mnganga-Gcabashe as a struggle heroine, party president Cyril Ramaphosa said that her legacy of unity must never be forgotten.
Mnganga-Gcabashe is credited with helping ease tensions between the ANC and IFP during a time of deep political division in KwaZulu-Natal.
Addressing thousands gathered at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre in Durban, Ramaphosa praised her role in building peace.
"She knew that unless we settled our differences, unless we overcame conflicts of the past - we would not be able to move forward, we would not be able to build the South Africa that we seek to build, a South Africa that belongs to all people of this country - that is just, equal and prosperous."
Ramaphosa has called on ANC members to emulate her example, saying unity remains critical within the party.
