The Democratic Alliance (DA) asked whether he intended to put measures in place to shield South Africans from the high cost of living, especially in light of the household food basket growing by nearly 40% above inflation.

Ramaphosa responded by saying that the measures included municipalities revamping their indigent registers to include more people and better housing opportunities.

"To provide affordable housing closer to economic centres as well as improving the quality of commuter rail services, making it in the end less expensive for people to get to work or to access services. So there is a whole plethora of interventions and measures that are being put in place."
