SAPS tracing IDs of more than 20 women found with main suspect linked to Olorato Mongale's murder

JOHANNESBURG - The profiles of more than 20 females are being investigated by police after their identity documents (IDs) were found in the possession of the main suspect linked to the murder of 30-year-old Olerato Mongale.
In the early hours of Friday morning, police closed in on Philangenkosi Makhanya in Amanzimtoti, in the south of Durban.
They revealed his involvement in a series of crimes including murder, robbery and kidnapping.
His last victim, Mongale’s lifeless body was found in Lombardy West, in Johannesburg, a day after she went missing when she did not return from a date.

Before police found Makhanya, his parents were taken in for questioning after it emerged that they had alerted him that a manhunt was on for him.
It is understood that he police tracked him down in Amanzimtoti and confronted him on Friday.
He reportedly responded with fire, and police retaliated and killed him.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi revealed that Makhanya was found with more than 20 phones and IDs in a safe that he was on the run with.
"So we will trace these IDs, who they belong to, and who are these people, and try to link them up."
Mkwanazi said they were still searching for two more suspects involved in the case.
