A vehicle he used in the crime in Johannesburg was found with blood stains at a panel beating workshop in Durban this week.
Mongale’s body was discovered in Lombardy West on Sunday after she had gone on a date the previous day with a man who picked her up from her home in Athol.
The main suspect in the case was found in KwaZulu-Natal with 28 cellphones and a safe at the time he was killed by police.
EWN understands that within the safe, there were numerous IDs, including those of women.
Investigators are probing to determine whether the IDs can be deemed as trophies of some of his victims.
The suspect's parents were taken in for questioning after it emerged that his mother allegedly helped her son evade arrest.
