JOHANNESBURG - Tributes continue to pour in for member of Parliament (MP), Petros Sithole, who was killed in a shooting in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg on Saturday night.
It's understood that three men opened fire on Sithole and a group of other people during a meeting at a hostel.
While the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) said it believed that the 68-year-old was assassinated, the motive for his killing is still unknown at this stage.
The deputy chief whip of the IFP in Parliament has since been described as a diligent public servant.
The African National Congress (ANC) caucus said that Sithole showed maturity, fairness and respect for other people's views.
RISE Mzansi caucus whip, Makashule Gana, said that Sithole's passing was a massive loss for the country.
"Mr Sithole’s alleged assassination stands as a reminder of the high levels of crime in our society, moreover that we need to at all times practice political tolerance and jealously guard the principles of our constitutional democracy. RISE Mzansi calls for the South African Police Service (SAPS) to investigate this matter with care and work with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to ensure that there is justice."
