On Thursday, a senior provincial police delegation met with residents at a crime imbizo in Vrygrond to address the crime problem in the area.

Gun violence in Vrygrond and surrounding neighbourhoods has been described as a dire situation that has reached a crisis point.

An Overcome Heights resident called for more help from police.

"So please take note there is a problem at Muizenberg station and we have a major problem with the shootings. Please get them help - I'm pleading for help."

Cape Town District Commissioner Major-General Sizakhele Dyantyi said they were aware of people's fears.

"There are gang issues within this community, so that's why we also have extra deployment that we've placed here so that we can ensure that we address those issues."

Dyanti's urged the communities to also work with the police to clamp down on crime.
