DURBAN - Police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) are investigating an incident where a police officer has been captured on tape assaulting protesting learners.
The incident allegedly took place during a protest in Jozini on Wednesday.
During the protest, the pupils pelted a police car with stones, which led to the arrest of four pupils.
But during the arrest, a pupil was allegedly assaulted by a police officer.
KZN police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda, said, “Police have also noted videos doing the rounds on social media, showing police assaulting a learner as they led him to a police van.”
He said police were investigating the matter and would take action where necessary.
“Such conducts are unacceptable, and the authenticity of the video will be investigated, and if police are found to have acted using excessive force, necessary actions will be taken.”
