JOHANNESBURG - Residents affected by recent floods in the Eastern Cape said they're concerned about how they will rebuild their damaged homes and continue with their lives.

Search and rescue operations have resumed on Thursday morning, with crews expected to continue combing through areas, such as Decoligny and Joe Slovo, west of Mthatha.

Forty-nine people have died in the floods, with the number expected to increase.

Four children are still missing after a 22-seater minibus they were travelling in was swept away by floodwaters.

Some people, who've been accommodated at a school hall, said they were worried.

"We can't rebuild now. We are still scared. We’re still staying at school," said one person.

"I don’t even know what I'm going to do, how long I am going to stay at my friend’s house – I don’t have any phones, anything," another said.
