2 people die in Snake Park fire

JOHANNESBURG - Two people have died after a fire broke out in a home in Snake Park, Nigel, in the Ekurhuleni Metro.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene in the early hours of Sunday morning, where they discovered two bodies burnt beyond recognition inside an informal settlement structure.
An eight-year-old child who survived the fire was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment after sustaining minor burns.
Ekurhuleni EMS spokesperson, Maswati Mdluli, said the cause of the fire was still unknown and was under investigation.
“At 03:00 am this morning, Ekurhuleni firefighters responded to a fire incident at Arla Park, Extension 3, Nigel. Upon arrival, they found a 3+1 roomed shack house fully engulfed in flames, with the community assisting in extinguishing the fire. After the flames were put out, firefighters began search and recovery efforts as there were concerns that there may be casualties trapped inside."
