CAPE TOWN - City of Cape Town Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith has accused the  National Coloured Congress leader Fadiel Adams of slander.

Smith said he will ensure appropriate legal action is taken against Adams, who this weekend accused Smith of being behind a plot to have him murdered.

Smith said that he has engaged his lawyers to take legal action against what he has deemed to be continued slander from Adams.

Adams alleged that DA ward councillor Deidre de Vos, who is based in Manenberg, warned him about Smith's alleged plot to have him murdered.

"Councillor de Vos alleges that she was sent by up Smith to go and tell an alleged gang boss in Manenberg that his DA  membership would be revoked and his tenders would be cut, and his sub-contract opportunities would be cancelled because Fadiel Adams knows about it."

Adams believes Smith's that the alleged action was a deliberate attempt to put his life in danger.

De Vos has refused to comment, and Smith has strongly denied the allegations, condemning them as fake news.

Police say they are not at liberty to disclose whether a case against Smith has been lodged.
