JOHANNESBURG - The Tshwane metro says its Temba water treatment plant continues to be out of commission due to a sewer discharge that was detected.
The discharge was detected flowing into the Apies River, which feeds into the Leeukraal Dam, the primary water source for the plant.
The areas with no water include Dilopye, Renstown, Hammanskraal West, Suurman and Refentse.
City spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, said roaming water tankers have been deployed and continue to provide water to the affected areas.
“The sewer discharge led to a deterioration of the raw water quality, making it unsafe for processing and distribution. The city's technicians are continuously monitoring the water quality for any improvements. The plants' normal operations will only resume once the water quality stabilises.”
