CAPE TOWN - The Cape Flats Safety Forum said it was concerned about the lack of policing in Mitchells Plain where at least ten people were shot in ongoing gang violence in the area on Thursday alone.

The forum's chairperson, Abie Isaacs, said that gangs in the area were merging in a battle for drug turf.

Isaacs said that the shootings in three different neighbourhoods in Mitchells Plain started over the weekend.

"Today was one of those days, where we can literally count for the past two hours, ten people were shot. Some deceased on the scene... and it becomes a concern for us."

Isaacs said that eight people were shot in Bentley Crescent, Beacon Valley while two people were shot at Town Centre in Portlands, in Mitchells Plain on Thursday.

"Let's say ten but it's more than ten. Let's leave it at ten, but as we are speaking, still people calling in shots fired."

Police are yet to confirm an accurate number for the amount of fatalities related to the shootings.
