JOHANNESBURG - Deputy President Paul Mashatile has been sharing some of his most cherished memories with his late predecessor, David Mabuza.
Mashatile visited Mabuza’s family at their Johannesburg home on Friday to offer his condolences following Mabuza’s passing on Thursday.
Although Mabuza had previously travelled to Russia for medical care, it is understood that he died in a Sandton hospital after a short illness.

Mashatile remembered Mabuza as a humorous and kind-hearted man who always spoke of the need to unite South Africans.
"One thing I liked about comrade Mabuza was that once he agreed on something, he would never change, so he was a committed man."
He said he often visited Mabuza’s Johannesburg home, where they shared many special moments together.
"He was a man who always wanted things to be very clear. Once we agree, we do it."
It’s understood that Mabuza’s body is currently at a Johannesburg mortuary and will only be moved to his Mpumalanga home next week.
