Assessments underway in Cape Town as heavy rain continues

The disaster risk management centre has completed damage assessments in Vygieskraal and is now rolling out humanitarian aid to residents affected by inclement weather conditions.
Heavy rainfall continues to batter the Western Cape province, creating dangerous conditions and widespread damage in several communities.
Assessments are also underway in Langa and at Borcherds Quarry, where homes have been flooded and structures damaged.

Disaster risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell says various communities have been impacted.
“In Burundi Mfuleni, 112 structures have been affected, impacting 119 people, with SASSA providing soft relief. Around 100 dwellings have been damaged in Zola informal settlement and Oliver Tambo. About 200 dwellings each have been impacted in Sweethome Farms, The Ark, Khayelitsha, and Island in Makhaza.”
