JOHANNESBURG - The events that played out at the inspection in loco in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial will officially be placed on record.

The Pretoria High Court travelled to Vosloorus on Saturday to get a firsthand look at the area where one of the accused claims he was assaulted after his arrest.

The five men are on trial for the former Bafana Bafana captain’s murder in 2014.

A high-speed convey sped to Vosloorus on Friday afternoon for the inspection in loco, requested by the defence.

The five accused walked through the streets, surrounded by heavily armed officers.

Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng observed as one of the accused, Muzi Sibiya, pointed out the location where he claims he was assaulted by police.

Sibiya said this happened twice after he was arrested and, on his version, forced to confess to Meyiwa’s murder.

While the trial is officially in recess, Judge Mokgoatlheng ruled in favour of holding the inspection and suggested this be done prior to the trial resuming later in July.

Sibiya wore a grey hoodie and boots as he demonstrated what occurred. At one point, he sat on the ground.

His co-accused watched as the inspection played out. The events will be placed on record when the matter kicks off again.
