CAPE TOWN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli says he's hopeful that allegations made by provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi against senior officials within the South African Police Service (SAPS) will receive the attention they deserve.
On Sunday, Mkhwanazi made explosive allegations about police leadership, claiming senior ranking officials were complicit in a cover-up of high-profile investigations into underworld figures in Gauteng.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, who is currently attending a BRICS summit in Brazil said he would personally deal with the damning allegations as soon as he returns from his trip later this week.
Ntuli said the allegations are serious and cannot be ignored.
"I'm of the view that any information that impacts on the lives of the people is for public consumption. On the method of how it is communicated is a different issue."
