JOHANNESBURG - Humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers has lauded KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi after he shared damning allegations of political interference by high-ranking officials in police investigations.

Last week Mkhwanazi held a surprise media briefing implicating figures, including Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, in corrupt activities with notorious individuals.

Gift of the Givers has labelled him a fearless and courageous leader for the shocking revelations, adding they are in full support of him.

Since Mkhwanazi’s bombshell Sunday media briefing, the accused SAPS officials have refuted his claims.

KZN’s top cop revealed damning allegations about police officials colluding with notorious figures like alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.

The founder and chairman of Gift of the Givers, Imtiaz Sooliman, says he has never witnessed such an honest and committed policeman.

“A policeman who has put his neck on the line to challenge ministers, management, the structures themselves, drug dealers, gangsters, the construction mafia, toxic gangsters, corrupt business people, corrupt politicians, and corrupt people within the Saps units and within the criminal justice system. Here is an opportunity for the country to stand behind a man and what a real policeman is all about. We need to support him and to support SAPS because, in essence, most of the people in SAPS are good people.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will hold a media briefing on Sunday to address the shocking allegations.
