JOHANNESBURG - Political party Rise Mzansi is calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to establish a commission of inquiry into serious allegations of corruption within the police service.
This follows damning claims made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi last week.
Rise Mzansi said that the president must act decisively following allegations that senior police officials, including Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, were working with criminal networks.

The claims were made by Mkhwanazi during a media briefing last week, where he suggested that parts of the SAPS may be captured.
Rise Mzansi’s national assembly whip, Makashule Gana, said that the president could not afford to remain silent and must respond with urgency.
He’s also called for all those implicated to submit themselves to a credible inquiry process.
"By the time President Cyril Ramaphosa addresses the people of South Africa on Sunday evening about one of the most serious breaches of national security under his tenure, it would have been a week since KwaZulu-Natal provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, made far-reaching allegations of a captured South African Police Service (SAPS). Said capture of the SAPS, according to the top cop, involves senior police management; the minister of police, Senzo Mchunu; members of Parliament; and the judiciary."
President Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on Sunday evening.
