JOHANNESBURG - The police ministry says it will be following court proceedings in the murder case of 11-year-old Jayden-Lee Meek very closely.
Deputy police minister Polly Boshielo said the developments in the case are sad, because Jayden died in a space where he was meant to be safe.
Boshielo addressed the media outside the Roodepoort Magistrates' Court on Monday, where the child's mother, Tiffany Meek made her first appearance following her arrest last week.

Jayden was found dead outside his home in Fleurhof, west of Johannesburg, hours after he was reported missing.
Boshielo said as investigations continue, more arrests can be expected.
"This is in relation to her own son. That is so, so sad. We will be following this case closely until there is a successful conviction in this matter."
In this matter, we cannot rule out the possibility of more arrests as investigations into the murder of Jayden-Lee continue.
