Police search for suspects involved in attempted kidnapping of Gauteng top cop

JOHANNESBURG - Police are still searching for suspects involved in an attempted hijacking outside the home of acting Gauteng Police Commissioner Fred Kekana on Monday morning.

Driving in a blue BMW, the suspects stopped next to the state vehicle and smashed the window.

The fired shots at the suspects, who then fled the scene, leaving a firearm behind.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the firearm was later discovered to be a toy gun.
"No injuries were reported and police are on the lookout for the suspects. And anyone with information can assist with investigations IDs requested to contact the crime stop line on 0860010111."
