JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Department of Community Safety has established a group to oversee preparations for the upcoming G20 leaders' summit.

The event, expected to take place in November, will see leaders from the world's major economies gather at the Nasrec Expo Centre to discuss pressing global issues and foster international cooperation.

Many people have raised safety concerns around Johannesburg as international guests are expected.

Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Premier Panyaza Lesufi, who heads the Department of Community Safety, said his teams are hard at work.

“We also highlighted an urgent need to prepare for the G20 Summit, and in doing so, we are leading a security workstream to ensure that those who will be visiting our province, the infrastructure will be ready. High on the agenda is the installation of CCTV cameras. We can now confirm that around the Nasrec precinct, we have installed CCTV cameras.”
