JOHANNESBURG - As the country celebrates Nelson Mandela Day on Friday, the Gauteng Department of Health will embark on the third edition of its surgical marathons.
Patients will benefit from more than 1,000 surgeries that will be conducted in a project, which is a collaboration between private facilities and public hospitals.
"This reflects the commitment by health professionals to improve the health and quality of life for vulnerable individuals in our communities,” said department spokesperson Motaletale Modiba.
“MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko will conduct a walkabout and oversight visit to theatres and wards to ensure the effective implementation of the surgical marathon."
