Disaster management deployed after devastating fire that killed mother and child
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)’s Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Department said assessments are underway, and immediate relief is being provided to affected residents.

DURBAN - Disaster management teams have been deployed to the Kennedy Road informal settlement in Durban, following a devastating fire that killed a mother and child and destroyed over 100 homes.
KwaZulu-Natal (KZN)’s Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Department said assessments are underway, and immediate relief is being provided to affected residents.
According to reports, more than 150 people have been left homeless by the inferno that was sparked by an unattended stove.
Humanitarian aid group Gift of the Givers is also on the ground, distributing food, blankets, and other essentials.
KZN COGTA spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila said: “MEC Buthelezi has extended his condolences to the bereaved family and assured the family of the department’s full support during this difficult time.”
