CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Metro Police have recorded 215 smash-and-grab incidents, mostly during late afternoons and early evenings.

It's understood that hotspot areas include the corridor between Bonteheuwel and Langa.

Reports suggest criminals often strike when drivers are less alert, after a long day at work.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, is urging motorists to stay alert, especially when driving through Leonsdale, Beaconvale, Milnerton, and Philippi.

"Before setting off on your journey, check that all of your valuables are in the boot of the vehicle, and that all the doors are locked and the windows closed.”
