CAPE TOWN - Director for non-profit organisation Accountability Now, Paul Hoffman, believes that Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga has put together a formidable team to help him investigate alleged corruption within the criminal justice system.
Acting Deputy Chief Justice Madlanga, who will chair the commission of inquiry, will be assisted by Advocate Sesi Baloyi SC and Advocate Sandile Khumalo.
The commission, established by President Cyril Ramaphosa, will probe allegations of criminality, corruption, and political interference in the criminal justice system.

This follows damning allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi earlier in July.
The commission has been given a tight timeline of three months to produce an initial report, then six months for a full report.
Hoffman said the commission could finish its work early if it could do the following: "If in their first report the Madlanga Commission points out to government that the cause of the complaint is the failure of government to put in place what it was told in binding terms to put in place back in 2011 when the Constitutional Court ruled that to deal effectively with corruption, we need a body outside of executive control."
