JOHANNESBURG - The mayor of Johannesburg, Dada Morero, said he’s not yet ready to appoint a replacement for Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy leader, Kenny Kunene, who no longer serves as the MMC for transport.
Kunene resigned as a councillor on Sunday and was also recalled as the MMC for transport by his party due to his controversial visit to the home of a man accused of orchestrating a series of murders.
The suspended PA deputy leader was found at the home of Katiso "KT" Molefe during a police raid.
Molefe is now behind bars for his alleged involvement in the murder of Oupa Sefoka, commonly known as DJ Sumbody.
While Kunene denies knowing Molefe, his presence at his home has raised questions about their relationship.
Patriotic Alliance leader, Gayton McKenzie, announced on Monday night that 24-year-old Liam Jacobs would be deployed to the Johannesburg city council as Kunene's replacement.
Jacobs recently left the Democratic Alliance (DA) and his seat in Parliament to join the PA.
There have been questions about whether Jacobs will be appointed as the transport MMC in Johannesburg, a position that Kunene was removed from following his latest controversy.
However, Morero said he had yet to decide on the appointment of Kunene’s replacement.
"At the right time, we will announce. There are still internal processes that we have to deal with and once we are done, we will give an announcement on the replacement of an MMC."
The PA will determine Kunene’s fate after the conclusion of an internal investigation.
