DURBAN - The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the latest arrest in the murder case of its secretary general, Sindiso Magaqa.
On Monday, the political task team arrested a former municipal manager of the Umzimkhulu Local Municipality in connection with the murder.
Magaqa was shot in his hometown of Umzimkhulu in July 2017 and died months later in hospital.
The latest arrest comes after one of the accused, Sibusiso Ncengwa, pleaded guilty to all charges.
KZN ANCYL provincial secretary Lulama Mabude said the case is improving positively.
“This development marks a significant and long-awaited step forward in pursuit of justice. The ANC Youth League has consistently maintained that true justice will only be realised when not only the perpetrators but all those who participated in orchestrating and coordinating the killing of the killing of our former secretary general Sundiso Magaqa are behind prison doors.”
Mabude has urged law enforcement agencies to continue to probe the matter.
“We believe that this move is crucial in bringing closure to the Magaqa family, his comrades and the broader ANC Youth League collective, who have maintained their unwavering demand for justice.”
The former municipal official is expected to appear in the Mzimkhulu Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
