CAPE TOWN - The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) appropriations committee has marked the end of the budget process with the adoption of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The NCOP's select committee on appropriations sat on Tuesday to consider the draft report on the Appropriation Bill, which was passed after a marathon session in the National Assembly last week.
The select committee also adopted the Eskom Debt Relief Amendment Bill, which amends the original Eskom Debt Relief Act to introduce interest payments on loans provided to Eskom.
The select committee on appropriations on Tuesday held its final sitting of the current term, which has come to an end after a longer-than-usual budget process held up by Government of National Unity (GNU) disagreements.
The committee picked up where the National Assembly left off last week by considering the Appropriation Bill and the individual department budgets in its draft report.
Committee chairperson Tidimalo Legwase: "Today, colleagues, marks not only the conclusion of our deliberations on the two critical bills, which is the Appropriation Bill and the Eskom Debt Relief Amendment Bill, this also marks the final and official sitting of the committee in the second term."
The Appropriation Bill and the Eskom Debt Relief Bill will now go to a sitting of the full council for final adoption.
