CAPE TOWN - Following unusually warm weather in the last few days in the Western Cape, residents can expect cold and wet conditions in the coming days.

The forecast cold front is expected to make landfall later on Wednesday evening into Thursday, bringing cold temperatures, strong winds and rainfall.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has also issued a level 2 warning for damaging waves in some parts of the province

Senior forecaster Kate Turner said Garden Route towns from Mossel Bay to Plettenberg Bay will be affected.

"Coastal damage to infrastructure is possible, difficulty in navigation at sea is possible, as well as small vessels and personal watercrafts may be at risk of taking on water and capsizing in locality. Therefore, we urge the public and coastal users to be vigilant these next couple of days and take caution out at sea."
