JOHANNEBURG - Gauteng’s cooperative governance and traditional affairs department has highlighted the Ellis Park precinct in Johannesburg as one of the designated G20 sites—selected for its CBD revitalisation program.

The department was speaking during the program’s activation on Friday.

The revitalisation program is a multi-stakeholder effort aimed at transforming central business districts across the province.

With the country holding the G20 presidency this year, Johannesburg is preparing to host the main summit of world leaders in November.

Department spokesperson Rofiwa Ramulwela says the revitalisation of key areas like Ellis Park is part of a broader effort to ensure the city presents a positive image to international delegates.

"This part of the precinct forms part of the G20 sites, so we are normally looking at what the issues are in the areas and also those areas that still need to be addressed from an infrastructure repair point of view as well as the cleaning. Mainly we don't just focus on cleaning, and this area has infrastructure issues; there are also potholes in the area, and there's water that is running down the streams, so there are teams from Joburg Water that normally focus on those issues." said Ramulwela.
