TSHWANE - Magalies Water is warning its customers in the City of Tshwane, who receive water from the Wallmannsthal supply scheme, to expect an indefinite interruption in supply.

This comes after water from the city-owned Roodeplaat treatment plant was suspended due to high levels of manganese.

As a precaution, the city of Tshwane has halted the water supply while working to resolve the issue.

At this stage, no estimated timeframe has been provided for when water supply will resume in areas affected by the water outage.

Several reservoirs connected to the Wallmannsthal scheme have already reached critically low levels, prompting Magalies Water to implement immediate water demand management to prevent a system collapse.

The water utility said rotational supply will continue during this period.

Meanwhile, the utility is also addressing a blockage in the treatment plant that’s caused floc channels to overflow.

These channels play a key role in the treatment process.

Technicians are reportedly on site to address the problem, and Magalies Water says further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
