CAPE TOWN - The high-profile trial related to the murder of "Steroid king" Brian Wainstein continues in the Western Cape High Court on Monday.

Alleged underworld gang boss, Jerome "Donkie" Booysen, and 14 others are on trial for Wainstein's murder.

Wainstein was shot dead in his Constantia home in 2017.

Since November last year, at least two of the accused in this matter have been killed in drive-by attacks.

Cellphone records presented as evidence in court show alleged underworld figures, Booysen, the now-deceased Mark Lifman and Andre Naude, were part of a criminal enterprise called "The Brotherhood".

A Hawks detective investigating Wainstein's murder said she was given recordings of phone calls between Lifman, Naude, Booysen and his brother, Colin Booysen.

The detective, who cannot be named, said the recordings revealed the men were part of "The Brotherhood" for more than 20 years.

Since the start of the trial, five accused have been killed.

Lifman and Naude were shot in separate drive-by attacks in the Western Cape.

The lead investigator is expected to continue presenting evidence on Monday.
