JOHANNESBURG -ActionSA says the African National Congress (ANC) should not waste its time by approaching it to join the Government of National Unity (GNU) if it's not prepared cut down the "bloated" size of Cabinet.

The ANC's National Executive Committee has resolved to expand the size of the GNU and begin the process of speaking to other parties.

ActionSA, which worked briefly with the ANC during the national budget process, says it can only join the HNU under strict conditions.

Party leader, Herman Mashaba says ActionSA has already refused one approach by the ANC to join the GNU.

"And we flatly refused, we said look, there is no point, you have over 70% parliamentary support, you want to neutralise us from being an effective opposition. We will never allow anyone to take that right from us to hold the GNU accountable. We will, however, talk to the ANC, in the event that the GNU collapses and leaves the country in a vulnerable position."

Mashaba said the party has no intention of joining the current configuration of the GNU.

"ActionSA will not participate in this bloated government, so if the ANC is not prepared to substantially reduce the size of the cabinet, I would really urge and I am requesting them with due respect, please don’t waste your time to come and talk to ActionSA."
