CAPE TOWN - A Bishop Lavis man has been sentenced to 25 years behind bars for the murder of his brother, mother and his aunt.
The Parow Regional Court convicted Cevyn Kemp after he pleaded guilty to all three counts of murder.
In his guilty plea, Kemp said that in December 2022, he killed his brother after they got into an argument about the deceased's poor school results.
The man later hit his mother over the head using the same brick he had used to attack his brother after she found her son's body upon her arrival from work.
Kemp's third victim, his aunt, was killed in the same manner, after she had apparently come looking for his mother and found the two bodies.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA)'s Eric Ntabazalila: "The Parow Regional Court sentenced Cevyn Kemp to 25 years' direct imprisonment. The State asked the court to impose life imprisonment but the court deviated from the prescribed minimum sentence after it found substantial and compelling reasons which included his age, personal circumstances, that he wanted to plead guilty, displaying some remorse."
