A TikTok trend/challenge is proving to be not so safe.

It's a challenge inspired by an old Nicki Minaj hit, dubbed 'The Nicki Minaj Stiletto Challenge.' 

The trend has swept across social media, pushing fans to recreate an iconic pose from Minaj’s 2013 music video from the song, High School, featuring Lil Wayne.

Around the 30-second mark of the song's music video, Minaj is seen air seated without a surface, near a pool, legs crossed and dressed in stilettos, a pose that appears simple, but is deceptively difficult to pull off.

TikTok users have recreated this one air-sitting atop various surfaces. In some videos, things like saucepans and boxes are packed on top of each other and people balance themselves on top of them in crazy spaces like on top of a kitchen counter or on the edge of a pool, while posing like Minaj did in the video.

However, the trend took a bad turn for Russian influencer Mariana Barutkina. 

Just weeks after giving birth, Barutkina attempted the challenge in a risky setup: balancing on a baby formula container placed on top of a saucepan on her kitchen counter.

With a friend holding her steady, things initially looked stable. But the moment she let go, she lost her balance and took a nasty fall, resulting in a minor back and spine fracture.

Despite the injury, Mariana confessed the stunt was “worth it” for the virality on social media and online fame.

Her accident serves as a cautionary tale for those chasing online clout and 'likes', without considering the risks, says Friedman.
