JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng High Court has dismissed attempts to halt the African National Congress (ANC)'s eighth regional elective conference in Ekurhuleni.

Earlier this week, some party members filed an urgent application seeking to interdict the conference.

They argued that the gathering and any resolutions passed there would be unlawful, as the term of office of the task team appointed to organise the event had expired.

However, the Gauteng High Court ruled that the applicants did not meet the legal requirements for relief.

ANC coordinator in Ekurhuleni, Jongiziwe Dlabathi, said that the ruling confirmed the conference should proceed.

"The African National Congress in the Ekurhuleni region welcomes the ruling of the Johannesburg High Court, delivered on 9 August 2025, which struck from the roll an application brought to halt the eighth regional conference. The court further ordered the applicants to pay the costs of the application. The leadership of the regional task team has consistently maintained full confidence that the conference is compliant with the ANC constitution and fully aligned with the adopted conference roadmap."

The party’s elective conference in Ekurhuleni takes place this weekend and new regional leaders will be elected.
