CAPE TOWN - Various members of the Democratic Alliance (DA), along with the MEC for Oversight and Community Safety, will embark on a march against gender-based violence on Saturday.
The purpose of the march is to highlight the SAPS DNA backlog, which affects the justice process for victims of abuse.
The march is starting at the Gugulethu Sports Complex and will end at the police station.
DA constituency head N2 Gunya, Siviwe Gwarube, is leading the march and said they are expecting 600 people to be present.
The group plans to hand over a memorandum to the police to demand that more should be done to protect women from the scourge of GBV.
"Perpetrators of violence end up walking away without facing the might of the law because there isn’t sufficient DNA to have them prosecuted. It's not enough for perpetrators to be arrested, we need perpetrators to be arrested, and we need them to be sentenced," said Gwarube.
