Not in My Name calls for Cachalia to act decisively after 3 policemen killed

JOHANNESBURG - Civil rights group Not in My Name is calling for urgent intervention following the killings of three police officers in less than a week.
The organisation has urged the newly appointed Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia to act decisively, warning that attacks on police were an attack on the authority of the state.
Just a week into the job and Cachalia is already under pressure.

Not in My Name said the South African Police Service (SAPS) must act swiftly after a police sergeant was shot and killed in Mpumalanga on Saturday, barely 24 hours after two detectives were gunned down in Gauteng.
The two officers had been transporting robbery suspect Jabulani Moyo back to prison after his court appearance in Roodepoort when they were attacked.
Not in My Name president, Siyabulela Jentile, said the government must restore public confidence.
"We demand urgent, decisive, and visible action from the ministry of police to restore public trust in the fight against crime, provide immediate protection, equipment, and resources for police officers, dismantle the criminal networks terrorising communities, and prioritise the swift apprehension of high-profile fugitives like Jabulani Moyo."
Jentile said officers must also be empowered to respond with proportional force when under threat.
