CAPE TOWN - The Nyanga Community Police Board sub-district has rolled out its #Silencethegun campaign in response to the ongoing scourge of gun violence in the area.
The campaign, officially unveiled on Saturday, aims to encourage community members to speak out against crime and help reduce the high number of gun-related incidents across the district.
The official launch day of the campaign coincided with three separate shootings reported in Manenberg, Bishop Lavis, and Philippi - all areas within the Nyanga sub-district.
The sub-district, which includes around 30 police stations, reportedly contributes to nearly 39% of all murders reported in the City of Cape Town.
Chairperson of the Nyanga sub-district, Martin Makasi, said that police had several anonymous reporting channels available to the public.
"If we are silent, we will die in silence, but the situation is not going to change in our communities. Now we want to empower and give our people confidence that they should speak up, they should come forward, they should work with the law enforcement agencies."
