CAPE TOWN - A new autism centre is set to be built in Westridge, Mitchells Plain.
The facility, launched by Autism Connect, will offer specialised education, therapy, and life skills programmes tailored to the needs of individuals on the autism spectrum.
A sod-turning ceremony took place this past week to mark the official start of the project.
Autism Connect director, Nicolette Ripepi, said the decision to build in Mitchells Plain followed years of working closely with families and schools in the area.
She said while there was no fixed timeline for completion, the organisation was committed to seeing the centre fully developed.
"Our services range from early childhood education and therapy to life skills, development and vocational training for young autistic adults. We partner with local schools, clinics; we get referrals from Tygerberg Hospital as well."
