CAPE TOWN - Gun-related crime continues to be a concern in the country.
Political party, RISE Mzansi, said approximately two million illegal firearms are circulating in South Africa currently.
It’s now calling on the South African Police Service to categorise the type of firearms they confiscate.
It said this will help trace the history of the weapons used in crimes.
Gun Free South Africa’s Stanley Maphosa said this will help with identifying the source of illegal guns.
"Every recovered gun should be a clue, and it is a clue. If we know its full history, who made this gun, who first licensed it, how has it moved, we can shut off the tap, we can close the leaking tap.”
