CAPE TOWN - The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has confirmed that the cold snap experienced in Cape Town and parts of the Western Cape was due to an expected drop in temperature.

Forecasters said people could still expect chilly mornings this week, with mild temperatures during the daytime.

Lesotho and the Drakensberg recorded snow on their mountains last week but that has since melted.

Forecaster Kate Turner said these temperatures were to be expected, as we were still in the winter season.

"But our daytime temperatures are actually going to be on the mild side into the high teens and low twenties for most of the Western Cape throughout this week."
